Denver, CO 9/13/19: Dr. Parsons was invited to serve as an instructional keynote leader about same-day shoulder replacement surgery. Attendees included 23 surgeons from around the country along with a host of industry representatives. Parsons was selected to this role for his expertise in outpatient joint replacement surgery which stems from the AVATAR program pioneered by Dr. Thomas V. King of King and Parsons.
AVATAR stands for Alignment of Vital Assets to Accelerate Recovery and represents a coordinated and customized synergy of care center around the patient undergoing shoulder, hip or knee replacement. The culmination of the years of refinement, this program has now allowed more than 1300 patients around New England to undergo outpatient joint replacement surgery – returning to the comforts of home in just a few hours or surgery.
Using this experience as background, Parsons helped to write the framework for a white paper which is now used to help other surgeons establish outpatient programs in their respective practices. Considered an expert in this topic based on substantial experience, Dr. Parsons has been invited to teach another course in Miami, Florida next spring.
Parsons will also be a keynote leader about surgical navigation in shoulder replacement in October at the annual American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons meeting in New York. He will also serve as a panel member on this same topic at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons meeting in Orlando, FL, March 2020. A designer of this groundbreaking technology which improves the accuracy of shoulder implant placement, Parsons was the first surgeon in New England to perform an outpatient reverse shoulder.
